How to Turn Your ‘What Ifs’ Into a Winning GovCon Strategy

Transform anxious guesswork into confident forecasts with Nue’s Scenario Planner.

Those nagging “what ifs” that keep you up at night? They’re not a sign of uncertainty—they’re strategic guideposts in today’s volatile GovCon landscape. With the right tools, you can turn those questions into confident action.

“What-ifs?” can highlight opportunities and challenges specific to your company, helping you steer successfully through broader market issues—such as federal budget shifts, advancing technology, and global disruptions.

Your GovCon operates in a uniquely regulated, contract-driven environment with fluctuating indirect rates, competitive contract awards, and evolving compliance requirements. With Nue’s Scenario Planner software system, GovCon leadership can model unlimited what-if scenarios in real-time, evaluate risks and benefits, and forecast operational and financial outcomes.

Nue’s platform frees you from chasing data and wrestling with stale spreadsheets so you can make data-based decisions and pivot when necessary to perform your best in your company’s business niche.

Run Detailed Forecasts Fast

Nue designed every function of the Scenario Planner so you can move seamlessly between functions to generate outcomes that support your GovCon’s priorities:

Primary Forecast Schedules

  • Income Statement: Tracks your company’s revenues, expenses, and net income across customizable dimensions—Year, Period (month/quarter/year), Organization, and Plan Name. Start with Year, Months, highest-level Org, and Plan Names.
  • Balance Sheet: View your company’s assets (including cash forecasts), liabilities, and equity at a specific point in time—or analyze trends across months, quarters, or years. Easily evaluate key drivers like Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) and Days Payable Outstanding (DPO) to assess liquidity and vendor leverage. One-click Excel export makes sharing and further analysis effortless.
  • Plan Names: Create as many as needed. We recommend starting with:
    • Actuals – Required
    • Baseline – Your annual plan
    • Forecast – A rolling forecast updated with actuals and best estimates
  • GovCon decision makers can customize the presentation of financial statements by expanding and collapsing sections to accommodate various purposes and audiences. Each iteration can be quickly copied from year to year, org to org, and plan to plan. No need to wrestle with transferring spreadsheet data or starting each presentation from scratch.

Basis of Estimates
The Scenario Planner offers over 33 pre-built Basis of Estimates (BOEs), covering everything from sales and receivables to net income, labor forecasts, and working capital assumptions.

  • BOEs are used to calculate planned Periods. These can be based on volume changes such as number of employees, or a change in pWin assumptions or by changes in historical costs for actual Periods. Overall, selected BOEs can reflect fixed, variable, or semi-variable assumptions to give your GovCon maximum flexibility in estimating future costs. Refresh all plan data changes with one click.  The system will update all reports and dashboards and be ready for viewing.
  • You can establish BOEs for each Plan Name and its Plan period. Typically, this is per accounting period (e.g., monthly), but you can run estimates on a quarterly or annual basis. Your GovCon will typically select a BOE for every active, entry-level Balance Sheet and Income Statement account. Once these are selected, you can copy BOEs to other Plan Names in the same year or a different year. No need to build a new budget from the ground up. Essentially, you can have a new scenario or new year’s forecast started in minutes.
